We are proud to invite you to join us at The 11th ISDEV International Development Management Conference (IDMAC2016): Islamic Sustainable Development that will take place from 6-7th December 2016 in Penang, Malaysia.

IDMAC2016 follows the successes of the previous IDMAC which started in 2007 with various themes related to Islamic Development Management.  This annually organised conference is an initiative to encourage research in Islamic-based social sciences. This year, the chosen theme for IDMAC is Islamic Sustainable Development. The conference aims to achieve the following objectives:
  1. To provide a platform and opportunity for practitioners, scholars, researchers, academicians, graduate students, NGOs and others from all over the world to converge and be proactively engaged  in an intellectual discourse on Islamic sustainable development;
  2. To present the latest research findings related to all issues on Islamic Sustainable Development either nationally or internationally, in relations to the current phenomena pervading the Muslim communities;
  3. To explore new ideas and solutions for Islamic Sustainable Development such as the empowerment of communities and to promote a better environment for future generation which is derived fundamentally from the Islamic epistemology and worldview.
Rationale

The deterioration of the environment and loss of quality of life are amongst the result of rapid development and urbanization. These concerns later become the platform for the insistent need to bring sustainable development, a concept of balanced development that accentuate the economic growth while cherish the wellbeing of human and nature to the forefront. Sustainable development is also considered as a development that fulfils the current needs without compromising the needs of the future generation.

Sustainable development has become a global agenda as it is expected to cure the current crisis of the world. The sustainable development concept has been disseminated from the west to all over the world, including the Muslim countries. The government of the Muslim countries are also the members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have been adopting sustainable development into the development planning and policies of their respective countries. However the big question lingers, is sustainable development conceptualized by the west and the international organisation suitable to be implemented by the Muslim countries and their citizens? Is sustainable development alone sufficient for the Muslims? Is sustainable development adequate to solve the diverse nature of Muslim societies within its eurocentric framework?

Rationally, an Islamic-based approach and perspective is needed to develop and solve the challenges related to the Muslim. Islamic sustainable development is one of the initiatives to resolve these issues. However what is the philosophical underpinning behind the concept of Islamic sustainable development? How can Islamic Sustainable be implemented? What are the required instruments and how can the achievements be measured?

This conference aims to address these questions by blending new, innovative and practical thinking on these Islamic sustainable development related issues with the following sub-themes:
